Hi, everyone! Today, I'll be talking about the nail polish Garland from Quixotic Polish, which is currently still available. Garland was released as part of the Quixotic Cold Front Collection on Black Friday 2019 (I believe as a winter 2019 collection). Quixotic Polish is an indie polish brand based out of California, and the maker Mary Mouroulis describes the polish as being 5-free -- specifically no dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, toluene, formaldehyde resin, or camphor. Quixotic is also vegan and cruelty-free, meaning the finished nail polishes themselves nor the ingredients used are not tested on animals/don't contain any animal byproducts. These swatch photos were taken in indirect, window-filtered natural light. Garland is described on Quixotic's website as "a golden holographic base with beige to gold to green shifting pigments and holo micro flakes." Especially on my skin tone, the color and the (relatively subtle) color shift give it a kind of like a "glowing from within" type of look. I honestly found it difficult to capture the full color/effect range of this polish. The beige/yellow-gold base is more apparent in direct lighting, and the grass green shift is only visible in low light and at extreme angles. The bottle in the 4th swatch photo is fairly accurate to the shade of green that the polish shifts to at the most extreme lighting angles. Low lighting also gives the polish a chrome finish.
The holo flakes are quite small, and being "micro flakes," they look more like micro-glitters on the nail rather than what I would personally describe as "flakes." In indirect or low lighting (conditions where the holo can't show), they look like white specks. In direct sunlight or strong lighting, the holo mostly looks like a scattered holographic. However, in stronger direct lighting, you can see a soft linear holo effect, though not as soft as the photo in sunlight shows. For all of these swatches, I did: 1 coat of Cuccio Base Coat + 2 thin coats of Garland + 1 coat of (goopy) Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. Because the "holo micro flakes" are kind of have the texture of micro-glitters, one regular coat of top coat is enough to completely smooth it out. The Quixotic Polish bottle brush and this formula specifically were really easy to work with for me. The brush is a wide flat brush, but it's not super dense like the KL Polish or Orly bottle brushes. So, the bristles spread out easily, and it wasn't difficult to get a neat application. The formula itself is kind of thin, but that made it easy to manipulate; there was no streaking (even on the first coat), and it self-leveled. With 2 coats, I still get a hint of visible nail line in certain lighting, but I don't mind it. In fact, when I was swatching, I actually really liked the look of just 1 coat of Garland; it gave a sort of elegant/sophisticated vibe. Overall, I quite like Garland. I like the Quixotic Polish brush, the formula was nice, and I think it's a nice shade on my skin tone. Being a beige with a slight color shift to a grassy green and some holo, I would describe Garland as an "elevated neutral" type of polish. The holo is definitely on the subtle side, so don't expect some super intense, in-your-face holographic pigment. However, I think that's my personal aesthetic preference because it gives it a more ethereal effect -- which I enjoy. I paid 10 USD for Garland on the Quixotic Polish website + a free shipping promo (to the contiguous US) back in July. As of the time of writing, it is still available. I ordered it on the evening of Friday, July 31, I got my first shipping update on Thursday, August 6, and it was delivered on Monday, August 10. Thanks for reading!

about @glowyminoI have dry skin and very dry and textured lips. I also have a medium-light skintone (somewhere in the realm of NC25-30) with strong warm yellow/olive undertones. I have a tendency to prefer a glowy, lightweight base and color cosmetics in shades of a warm undertone. Read more about me in the about page! Archives
