Hi! Today, I'll be talking about the indie nail polish Quixotic Polish Nightshade. Nightshade was part of their Flakie Bombs Collection released in spring 2020. Quixotic is an indie nail polish brand based out of California, and they describe their polishes as being vegan, cruelty-free, and 5-free (no dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, toluene, formaldehyde resin, or camphor). Quixotic Polish describes Nightshade as "a blackened teal base packed with red/gold/green and green/blue shifting iridescent flakes." I personally wouldn't describe the base color as a "teal." In my opinion, teal is a green-leaning blue; it'd more accurate to call this a deep emerald green (both on me and in the bottle). In real life, the color is more green (and less blue) than it shows in these photos. Nail polish swatches in window-filtered natural light For this swatch, I used: 1 coat Cuccio Base Coat + 2 coats Nightshade + 1 (somewhat thick) coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. The first coat is definitely sheer because of the jelly-like base, but that also helps the flakes shine through the layers. 2 coats weren't totally full coverage on my relatively short nails, and in some lighting, I could still see visible nail line and the texture of my deeper nail ridges, but I was fine with how it looked. You would probably want 3, maybe 4, if you want full coverage. In window-filtered natural light The flakes come in a variety of sizes. There are some that are (what I consider) larger "regular"-sized flakes, and there are some that are a little smaller. They laid down flat on the nail bed itself, so I didn't need to work to finesse them or place them there. But, there were a few that stuck up when the brush reached the free edge, so I had to poke those ones down. Other than those larger flakes, there are really small ones that I would describe as micro-flakes, and they fill in the empty space between the larger flakes. One somewhat thick layer of top coat was enough to completely smooth out the flakies. A glossy top coat is also good to make it glossy since the base color dries down a little dull -- and of course, for longevity. The removal process was easy, and I didn't really have any trouble with removing the flakies. Just like with Garland, the other shade from Quixotic Polish that I reviewed, the formula and brush were both easy to work with. The formula didn't feel thick, and it self-leveled. The bottle brush is a wide flat brush that isn't super dense or super wide, so the bristles spread out effortlessly, and the brush was easy to control. I feel like this shade is a very good color for the fall time and around the holidays -- though admittedly those sorts of rich jewel tones are just my favorite colors to wear year-round regardless of the season. I really enjoy this shade of green, the flakes, and the brush, and I just generally enjoyed wearing this shade. Nightshade is currently still available on the Quixotic Polish website for 11 USD for a 12 mL bottle. I placed my order (along with Garland) the evening of Friday, July 31, I got my first shipping update on Thursday, August 6, and I received it on Monday, August 10. For reference, both Quixotic and I are located in the contiguous US. Thanks for reading!

about @glowyminoI have dry skin and very dry and textured lips. I also have a medium-light skintone (somewhere in the realm of NC25-30) with strong warm yellow/olive undertones. I have a tendency to prefer a glowy, lightweight base and color cosmetics in shades of a warm undertone. Read more about me in the about page! Archives
